The demand for the development of new technologies in the field of electronics and instrumentation has been rising consistently. The Instrumentation Technology, being an inter-disciplinary branch of engineering, is heading towards development of new & intelligent sensors, smart transducers, MEMS Technology, Blue tooth Technology etc.



Career Prospects

An applied electronics and instrumentation engineer fits into almost any mainstream industries, be it Information Technology, Telecom, Textiles, Electronics, Mechanical etc. because of the background of the subject.

They find their place in the IT industry in system design and control automation, automobile industries, some of the private sector companies like General Electric, Siemens, TATA, Aditya Birla Group etc are a few to name among others and in public sector companies like HAL etc.

These engineers can venture into further studies in the fields of:

a) Research and development in instrumentation.

b) Postgraduate and PhD programs in the fields of electronics and instrumentation, IT etc.

c) Industry specific instrumentation like aerospace electronics, manufacturing management etc.

d) A management diploma/degree program is also a good option.



Salary

The remuneration varies with individual experience and expertise on the field and also is industry specific.

A fresh engineer may take home a pay package of somewhere between Rs. 11,000 – Rs. 13,000 per month plus allowances and benefits in a public sector company whereas in a private sector a fresh graduate may be offered between Rs. 12,000 – Rs. 15,000 plus perks.
